According to the prosecutor's office in Kyiv, 344 children have been killed since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

At least 642 were injured, the authority announced on Sunday.

A total of 986 children in Ukraine were victims of extensive "military aggression" by Russia.

In fact, one assumes higher numbers, since the investigations in the contested areas are still ongoing, it is said.

Most children are therefore affected in the Donetsk region.

2,102 schools and educational institutions were also damaged by bombing and shelling.

Of these, 215 were completely destroyed, it said.

Earlier reports from Kyiv also said that "more than 200,000 children had been deported to the Russian Federation" since the beginning of the war.

The information cannot be independently verified.

On the run or threatened by starvation

The United Nations Children's Fund reported in April that almost two-thirds of all Ukrainian children had to leave their homes in the first six weeks of the war.

Of the approximately 7.5 million children under the age of 18, 2.8 million were displaced within the country and two million fled abroad.

Of the Ukrainian children who are not yet fleeing, almost half are at risk of starvation, it said.
