Having nice, cool water on your feet is a really nice feeling in summer.

But just now the natural Kneipp facility in Eberfing had to be closed.

Due to construction work on the neighboring property, there are problems with the water supply.

Eberfing

– A construction project can always bring a few surprises.

However, the fact that the work leads to the neighboring Kneipp facility running out of water is rather rare.

But that is exactly what happened in Eberfing.

A pit was dug there for a private building project.

"The groundwater is very high at this point," explains Mayor Georg Leis.

For this reason, the water had to be pumped out from time to time for the construction of the cellar so that the floor was drained – the experts call this “construction drainage”.

"This was also approved," says Leis.

What previously worked without any problems on the neighboring property, now caused difficulties.

Excavation pit was empty, unfortunately the Kneipp pool too

"The water-bearing layers seem to be different at this point." That's why a lot more water had to be pumped out than originally thought.

This also had an effect on the Kneipp facility: it suddenly ran out of water.

The work was interrupted and the pumps switched off.

The pool filled up again – as did the excavation pit, which is now reminiscent of a lake.

The Kneipp facility is now temporarily closed – as a precaution.

According to Leis, there was an on-site visit last weekend to see how things are going from now on.

The builders need a new permit for temporary pumping because the required amount of water is larger.

The Kneipp facility was also temporarily closed.

Due to the intervention in the groundwater level, "we can't say anything about the water quality at the moment," says Leis.

He expects that the construction work can be continued - "it's building land".

Then the system will probably run out of water again.

The community will probably use the time to renew the gravel.

"The water doesn't have to be pumped out for this, but it's easier that way."

Mayor is optimistic

But what if the basement is standing?

Does the water then find its way to the Kneipp facility as usual?

"We can't make a definitive assessment of that either," admits Leis.

In view of the fact that the water situation quickly returned to normal after the water pumps were switched off, "it seems that the effects will be limited".

The water quality should then quickly be back to what it was before.
