“An endangered species”: towards the end of beet cultivation in the Oise?

While world sugar stocks are at their lowest, prices are rising and sugar producers are buying beets from growers at a higher price.


Wheat fields as far as the eye can see in the Vexin.

And between each golden plot, stretches of green, that of the foliage of sugar beets.

This year, the tubers have developed well, the uprooting is planned for the end of the summer, in September.

At Petit Serans (Oise), Alexis Hache roams the paths of his 40 hectares (ha) of beets, on the lookout for the slightest weed.
