On Saturday, July 2, 2022, a serious traffic accident occurred in Zugspitzstrasse, in which a 67-year-old scooter driver suffered fatal injuries.

The police inspection in Garmisch-Partenkirchen has started investigations into the exact cause of the accident under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor's office.

A serious traffic accident occurred in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Saturday around 10:00 p.m.

A 67-year-old from Garmisch-Partenkirchen drove his motor scooter along Zugspitzstrasse and, according to witnesses, after being overtaken by a car, collided with a tour bus parked on the road.

As a result of the accident, the scooter driver suffered serious injuries, as a result of which he died.

According to on-site witnesses, the driver of the car who had overtaken the scooter driver fled the scene of the accident.

Since a connection between the overtaking maneuver and the accident could not be ruled out, the vehicle was immediately searched for.

The driver of the car, a 41-year-old from the district, returned to the scene of the accident while the accident was being recorded.

Further investigations must show to what extent the overtaking maneuver was the cause of the accident.

By order of the public prosecutor's office, investigations into negligent homicide and unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident were started.

The scene of the accident was secured and illuminated by the Garmisch fire department.

The Zugspitzstrasse was closed for the accident investigation until 1:50 a.m.

Witnesses who can provide information about the accident are asked to contact the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police station on 08821/917-0.
