Thousands of rare heritage pieces and collectibles were collected by young Khaled Matar from As-Suwayda Governorate as part of his quest to establish a museum in the town of Al-Quraya to which he belongs.

Cheb Khaled (42 years old) told SANA reporter that his work in the field of ancient Arab swords for about 20 years and the experience he gained opened the way for him to become highly attached to everything that is ancient heritage, as he started the process of collecting related pieces starting in 2010.

Khaled’s collectibles include various pieces such as ancient weapons used by ancestors, copperware, orientals, agricultural and harvest tools, food preservation, weights, lighting, radios, perfumes, eyeliners, straw bowls, ancient coins, natural leather that were used on the Silk Road, and many other such pieces.

Rare pieces owned by Khaled and he could not give up on them, as he says, including a huge straw dish called (Al-Maqqan) that was used to put wheat in it, an old wooden milk measure dating back more than 150 years, an ancient copper Arab mansaf with three rings more than 100 years old, and a gun called Umm Fateel dating back to the century. The nineteenth century and a candlestick dating back 250 years, in addition to swords, some of which are more than 100 years old.

According to Khaled, collecting his pieces currently took a lot of time, effort and money, and he was helped by the young man, Yazan Abu Moghdeb, who is interested in heritage, indicating that he constantly adds many pieces to them due to the constant demand for them from connoisseurs of heritage and originality from different segments of society.

Khaled pointed to the importance of introducing current generations to the memory of past generations and the nature of their lives full of fatigue and hardship, and their ancient and original customs and traditions that we desperately need in our time, considering that collecting heritage pieces and presenting them to people for their preservation is an affirmation of adherence to authenticity and the Syrian local heritage that represents our identity.

According to the young man, Yazan Abu Moghdeb, Khaled Matar knows who he is referring to the value of heritage and what it carries and supports many people interested in heritage with their exhibitions and participation in festivals. He also presents many pieces to film a number of popular songs for free.
