The Board of Directors of the Fund for Mitigating the Effects of Drought and Natural Disasters on Agricultural Production has agreed to compensate farmers affected by the strong winds that occurred at the beginning of last March, which caused damage to the protected cucumber, bean and strawberry crops in Tartous and Baniyas. 98 with a compensation amount of 72.1 million pounds.

The Council also agreed, during the meeting held today at the Ministry of Agriculture, headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Engineer Muhammad Hassan Qatana, to compensate the farmers affected as a result of the spring frost that occurred in mid-March, which caused damage to the rainforest almond, peach and peach trees in Hama governorate, the areas of Salamiyah, Soran and Al-Battata in the Mahardah area, where The affected area of ​​rain-fed almonds in the Salamiyah area amounted to 4781 dunums, the number of affected farmers was 259, with a compensation amount of 148.6 million pounds, while the affected area of ​​peaches and peaches in Soran reached 99 dunums, the number of affected 16 farmers was 3.5 million pounds, and the affected potato area was 3026 dunums, and the number of farmers was 215 affected by an amount of 237.6 million lira.

He also agreed to compensate farmers affected by the frost in mid-March on potato crops, apricot trees, garnets, peaches and almonds, in the Baal in the Khattab area of ​​Hama, where the number of affected 697 farmers amounted to 299.6 million Syrian pounds.

In Daraa governorate, the council agreed to compensate farmers affected by the frost on the 18th of March this year on potato, zucchini, pea and bean crops.

The Board of Directors also agreed to compensate the affected farmers in Damascus countryside as a result of the frost that occurred at the end of March on green beans, as the number of affected farmers reached 121 with a damaged area of ​​910 dunums and a compensation amount of 10.3 million pounds.

The Minister of Agriculture stressed the need to speed up the inventory of damages when they occur and not to delay compensation for farmers to benefit from the amounts due in the same season, and the need to reconsider the instructions of the decree regulating the work of the fund and to amend some articles to be more flexible with the damages incurred and benefit the farmers, and the need to develop a clear guide to technical standards for cultivation Green houses and adherence to them, pointing out that licensed greenhouses will be dealt with later in accordance with the mandatory agricultural insurance.

Qatana pointed out the importance of also adhering to the agricultural calendar and the dates set for planting each crop to avoid the damage caused as a result of early cultivation, as well as the commitment to planting fruit trees in the specified locations and not planting them in lands suitable for cultivation of strategic crops.
