Halle's Lord Mayor Bernd Wiegand gained notoriety last year because he had himself vaccinated at the beginning of the Corona vaccination campaign, even though it wasn't his turn yet.
Now the public prosecutor's office has filed another charge against the suspended mayor.
The non-party politician and his former office manager are said to have continued to allow an employee of a municipal business development company on leave to access the data network of this company without authorization, as the Halle public prosecutor announced.
Wiegand is also accused of deliberately giving false testimony as a witness in civil proceedings before the Halle Regional Court.
Wiegand denies allegations
Wiegand and his former office manager are therefore charged with preparing the spying out and intercepting of data, and Wiegand is also charged with false unsworn testimony.
He therefore denies the allegations.
Wiegand has been in the sights of the judiciary for a long time.
In March, he was charged with a vaccination scandal.
Together with 28 other local politicians, Wiegand had himself vaccinated against the corona virus at the beginning of 2021, although it was not his turn yet.
Wiegand admitted the vaccination in February.
Wiegand justified his early vaccination by saying that leftover vaccine doses from a diaconal hospital should be saved from being thrown away and that everything went “properly”.
He was called because he was on a list of high-ranking people who could receive an "ad hoc vaccination" in such a case.
The state administration office of Saxony-Anhalt temporarily relieved Wiegand of his office two years ago.
As part of a disciplinary procedure, the authority is also examining other allegations against the politician.
Born in Braunschweig, he was elected Mayor of Halle in 2012.
In October 2019, the graduate administrator was re-elected.
