Flight EZY8303 of the discount airline EasyJet from London to Mallorca in Spain "won" personal escort of Spanish fighter jets, after an 18-year-old British tourist warned of a bomb on the plane.

According to a Daily Mail report, the boy was arrested yesterday (Sunday) while landing on the island, and officers from a special unit with patrol dogs came to check the plane.

The tourist, who was part of a group of friends who boarded a

flight at Gatwick Airport, could be fined £ 1,000 for the false threat.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard confirmed today that "the Civil Guard has arrested an 18-year-old British boy who committed a crime of disturbing public order".

If the boy is fined, it could be high and include the costs of the police operation and the launch of fighter jets.

The passengers of the plane had to wait on the runway for four hours until the police finished checking the plane.

A spokesman for EasyJet said that "the safety and security of passengers and crew are always a top priority for EasyJet. We thank passengers for their understanding."

Apparently, the incident also caused a two-and-a-half hour delay in the departure of a Ryanair plane to London.
