Fancy a little day trip in the neighboring country?

The 9-euro ticket makes this possible, at least on some routes.

You can find out what these are here.

Day-trippers have been able to use the 9-euro ticket since June 1 to travel inexpensively on regional transport in Germany.

However, there are a few things to consider - for example, there are trains on regional routes on which the 9-euro ticket may not be used.

But what about the regional trains that cross the border and stop at foreign stations?

Here, day trippers must pay attention to the regulations of the respective transport company.

Some accept the 9-euro ticket up to the first stop after crossing the border - others require a connecting ticket for the journey abroad.

Day trip to Austria with the 9 euro ticket

With the Bavarian Regional Railway (BRB) to Austria: This is possible with the 9-euro ticket on the route between Freilassing to Salzburg and Kiefersfelden to Kufstein, like the Deutschlandtarifverbund GmbH.

The S3 of the Austrian Federal Railways can also be used between Freilassing and Salzburg.

With the DB Regio, you can travel with the 9-euro ticket on the route from

Pfronten-Steinach

via the Austrian towns of

Vils

,

Reutte

and

Ehrwald

to

Griesen

near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

But watch out: the 9-euro ticket is not valid for the local bus and train lines when getting off in Austria.

  • BRB: Freilassing – Salzburg

  • BRB: Kiefersfelden – Kufstein

  • ÖBB (S3): Freilassing – Salzburg

  • DB Regio AG: Pfronten-Steinach - Vils - Reutte (Tyrol) - Ehrwald - Griesen

On some routes abroad, the 9-euro ticket is cheap - for example to Salzburg.
