Russia announced its refusal to include Germany and Japan in the UN Security Council and that it supports the presence of Asian, African and Latin countries such as India and Brazil.
“The UN Security Council has practically turned into an arena used by Western colleagues for propaganda, where they present their views as the ultimate truth,” RIA Novosti news agency quoted Russian Ambassador to China Andrei Denisov as saying during the plenary session of the United Nations World Peace Forum in Beijing. These actions further alienate the members of the UN
Security Council, making its work less effective.
He added: “United Nations reform is an urgent necessity, and Russia supports the expansion of the UN Security Council on the basis of broad consensus. To achieve this, the share of Asian, African and Latin American countries must be increased so that the Council can reflect the aspirations of the peoples of the world and become more democratic.”
Denisov stressed that his country supports the accession of India and Brazil to the UN Security Council, but it is not ready to support the inclusion of Germany and Japan in this council, because that will not change the internal balance in it.
