On Saturday (July 2nd) the left engine of a British Airways plane failed in German airspace.

The machine had to stop in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt – On a flight from London Heathrow in Great Britain to Bodrum in Turkey, a technical incident occurred on Saturday (July 2nd): At an altitude of 10,000 meters, the left engine of the Airbus A320 apparently failed, according to the industry magazine

Aviation herald

reported.

The flight BA-670 from British Airways was affected, as reported by fnp.de.

The left engine failed about 75 kilometers southwest of Frankfurt am Main, whereupon the cabin crew switched it off.

She declared an emergency landing at Frankfurt Airport and the plane arrived safely on runway 07C about 35 minutes later.

Airbus remained at Frankfurt Airport for repairs for 21 hours

According to the magazine, passengers reported that the flight had already been delayed at London Heathrow.

The first machine intended for the flight should have been replaced before departure.

But apparently the Airbus was then used, on which the engine failure later occurred.

The aircraft remained at Frankfurt Airport overnight, for a total of around 21 hours.

With a total delay of around 23 hours, it finally reached Bodrum in Turkey.

British Airways confirmed the incident when asked *: "We apologized to our customers for a delay that occurred due to a technical problem with the aircraft."

In addition, passengers were informed that British Airways would pay for hotel accommodation and other expenses such as meals and communication with relatives.

"The safety of our customers and our crew is always our top priority," said a spokeswoman.

A flight would only continue if it was safe to do so.

problems at airports

European air traffic rarely produces good headlines this summer: when it comes to the organizational handling of flights, there is always chaos and waiting times, including at Frankfurt Airport.

The background is the lack of staff at airlines after they laid off specialists due to the corona pandemic.

British Airways issued a statement on the incident shortly after this article was published.

We have added the corresponding statement.
