A bedroom with a double bed, two bedside tables, two lamps.

What more ?

It must be admitted that walls, a ceiling and a door would not be refused.

This hotel room in Saillon, a village in southern Switzerland, does not have one.

Worse, it is located between a gas station and a cantonal road.

Baptized “anti-idyllic”, this “room” – so to speak – is still offered at 325 euros per night.

At this price, no bathroom, but a toilet a few steps away.

On the other hand, a welcome drink is included with a “planchette” of local products, pastries from a local bakery for breakfast and the service of a “modern butler”.

Everything to have an excellent stay, provided you ignore the road and the gas station.

And the total lack of privacy.

Null stern hotel project

Concept artists Frank and Patrik Riklin and hotelier Daniel Charbonnier, have launched an “anti-idyllic” version of their hotel concept.

The situation of the current world, inspired them for the creation of this sequel which becomes a statement on the urgency and the need for a radical change in society.

Swiss conceptual artists Frank and Patrik Riklin, twins, and hotelier Daniel Charbonnier have been making waves internationally since 2008 with their “Null Stern Hotel”.

It all starts with the opening of a room in a former bunker resistant to nuclear attacks in Sevelen, in eastern Switzerland.

The concept is then declined in 2016, 2017 and 2018 with rooms without walls or roof in the middle of nature.

Success obliges, these rooms, still available for reservation today, are located in magnificent places near the town of Saillon.

There is the suite du Vignoble, between the vines with a magnificent view of the village of Saillon and the mountains of Bietschhorn.

The Bayart suite, located on the hill of the tower of the same name, dating from the 13th century, with a view of the Rhône valley.

And the Farinet suite on the Colline Ardente, where the smallest plot of vines in the world is located, belonging, get this, to the Dalai Lama.

“Now is not the time to sleep”

Other “rooms” are offered in magnificent locations.

Fortunately, sleep is not what we come for here.

Frank and Patrik Riklin invite their hosts not to sleep in order to better reflect on the consequences of global warming, wars and humanity's endless quest for perfection.

Now is not the time to sleep.

If we continue in the same direction as today, there could be more dreadful places than idyllic places

 ,” says Patrik Riklin.

"

Staying here is a statement about the urgency of change in our society

 ," adds his brother.

We suggest that you invest time in you and for you, in order to give meaning and value to this moment of introspection.

".

Guests are invited to share their reflections, thoughts, fears, certainties in a suggestion box.

They will be compiled and will contribute to future concrete local actions.

The site specifies that in the event of rain, visitors will be relocated to the four-star hotel Les Bains de Saillon.

This is the first time that we hope for bad weather for our holidays...
