The Italian government announced today the imposition of a state of emergency in five regions in the north of the country, in addition to urgent funding, against the backdrop of a worsening drought that swept the Po Valley in recent weeks.
AFP quoted the Italian government as saying in a statement today that a state of emergency was imposed in five regions: Friuli-Romagna, Frulli-Venice Giulia, Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto until December 13.
The Italian government also announced the allocation of 36.5 million euros, or 39.5 million dollars, to help those affected.
