As of 1 January 2021, the community of Italians living abroad is made up of 5,652,080 units, 9.5% of the over 59.2 million Italians residing in Italy.
While Italy has lost almost 384,000 residents in its territory, it has registered a 3% increase in the last year in those who reside permanently abroad.
The mobility of Italians with pandemic has not stopped, but has certainly undergone a downsizing that does not concern, however, new births abroad by Italian citizens, but rather the real departures: the number of compatriots who have materially left the country by going to the abroad from January to December 2020.
In absolute value, this is 109,528 Italians, -21,408 people compared to the previous year.
