The Central District Attorney's Office (Criminal) filed an indictment in the Central District Court against Rani Alkamlat (28) Rahat for murder with indifference, grievous bodily harm and more.
This was after the defendant, who drank alcoholic beverages, tried to evade the police, drove in a life-threatening manner and as a result severely hit the late police volunteer Amichai Carmeli who was killed on the spot and wounded two policemen who were on the scene.
According to the indictment filed by attorneys Uri Rintzky and Elad Asraf, on Friday (10.6.2022) the defendant spent time with friends and drank alcoholic beverages with them. In the early morning, the defendant and two of his friends left the place of entertainment. The passengers got out of the vehicle and started dancing.When the passengers noticed a police car passing by, they got into the vehicle and started fleeing the scene, hitting a taxi that was standing in. Then the police started chasing the accused, who was driving wildly and at high speed, crossing a red light.
At that time, near the incident, a police checkpoint was set up to check drunkenness, including the late volunteer Amichai Carmeli. The late who was next to the police car.
Immediately afterwards, the defendant also hit another police car with force and injured two policemen.
Despite the aforesaid the defendant did not stop his driving and was stopped only after hitting another vehicle, then got out of the driver’s door as he ran towards the opposite lane and was caught by police officers following him.

As a result of the defendant's actions, the late Amichai Carmeli died on the spot, two policemen were evacuated for medical treatment at the hospital, when one of them suffered head injuries and bleeding and the defendant's friends who were with him in the vehicle were injured and required medical treatment.
Defendant was charged with murder (indifferent);
Aggravated intentional sabotage;
Intentionally endangering the lives of people in the transport and drunk driving lane.
The case is being investigated by the Shefela Criminal Unit and the Israel Police.
