The Catholic world leader spoke in an interview in favor of the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn the ruling that provides federal protection for abortions • In addition, Francis expressed a desire to serve as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia

The leader of the Catholic Church, the Pope, spoke today (Monday) on a series of controversial issues including the issue of abortion in the United States.

During an interview with the Reuters news agency, Francis denied that he intended to resign from the Holy See and announced that he was interested in flying to Kiev and Moscow amid the war between the two countries.

Francis has demonstrated his support for the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on abortion, one of the pillars of the Catholic faith. "I ask: is it legitimate, is it right to eliminate human life to solve a problem?".

In addition, much criticism was leveled against Francis (85) in what was perceived as taking a lax stance on the part of the Vatican in the face of the Russian invasion that began last February 24 and for the first time in public, the pope demonstrated a desire to serve as a mediator.

"I would like to travel (to Ukraine), and I wanted to travel to Moscow first. We exchanged messages about that," the religious leader said.

"And now it is possible, after I return from Canada, I may be able to travel to Ukraine," he added while explaining that "the first thing is to travel to Russia to try to help in some way, but I would like to travel to both capitals."

However there is no exact date for this visit and his next visit to Canada will be between the 30-24th of the month.

Francis took advantage of the interview to deny the rumors surrounding his medical condition and allegedly intended on his part to retire from the post as his predecessor, Benedict XVI.

As you may recall, the Pope is still recovering from knee surgery and has not yet returned to 100 percent fitness.

"It never crossed my mind," he replied when asked if he intended to retire.

"Right now it's not, really!", He stressed.
