The young woman, Rahaf, 20 years old, with the help of her mother Ghazwa Suwaid and her teachers at the Children of Love Association for the Care of People with Disabilities, was able to challenge her disability and highlight her talent with distinctive paintings in the exhibition held at the association’s headquarters entitled “You are not alone” in addition to winning second place in the childhood and creativity competition for people with disabilities.
Regarding the beginnings of Rahaf, her mother Ghazwa said in a statement to SANA reporter that her daughter underwent a lot of training, where she started with simple things in drawing and handicrafts such as cubes, squares and geometric shapes, and then began drawing for children. Transferring any image placed in front of her, and she excelled in many beautiful drawings and products, and within a short period of time she was able to add her own mark on her drawings.
Ghazwa added, "I devoted my time completely to taking care of my daughter, Rahaf, and underwent a lot of training and attended many awareness lectures at the association, which enabled me more to deal with my daughter, understand her nature and overcome her difficulties."
The director of the association, Reem Othman, explained that the association works to rehabilitate children with disabilities from the age of 2 to 18 years, where they are rehabilitated behaviorally, cognitively, academically, cognitively and socially according to individual standards, programs and plans for each child according to his needs, in addition to professional empowerment after the age of 18, where cadres are subject to training courses They are prepared to practice special educational and kinetic activities under the supervision of experts and specialized trainers in and outside the association in coordination with the Directorate of Education and the Directorate of Health and Social Affairs in Tartous.
According to Othman, the association receives all types of motor, hearing, and intellectual disabilities and works to train children on various manual works through an integrated training workshop, in addition to a sewing course consisting of 15 trainees, some of whom have disabilities. the future.
Othman pointed out that early intervention to care for children with disabilities starts from the second year and is conducted by training the mother to deal with her child to develop his abilities in the early stage of disability, which contributes to providing the necessary care for the child and achieving integration into society.
