Noted for her defense of secularism during the previous five-year term, this member of the MoDem is back in government. In particular, it will be in charge of the Universal National Service.

His name did not appear during the composition of the government of Elisabeth Borne last May.

Here it is again on the occasion of this first redesign.

Sarah El Haïri returns to her position as Secretary of State for Youth on Monday.

The title of her position is however changing slightly: in charge in particular of Engagement during the previous five-year term, she is now directly responsible for the Universal National Service (SNU).

The executive wishes to make this device compulsory

“to all 16-year-olds gradually”

.

One of the projects to come therefore for Sarah El Haïry.

Re-elected MP

A member of the MoDem, the Secretary of State particularly stood out during the previous five-year term for her defense of secularism.

After a meeting with young people in November 2020, she was, for example, offended that some refused to sing the national anthem of La Marseillaise and did not share certain fundamental values, such as the right to blasphemy.

In April 2021, she was also indignant at the

mea culpa

of the Evian brand which had promoted its water on the opening day of Ramadan, before apologizing.

"It's absolutely crazy

," she lamented on RTL, denouncing

systematic

"victimization" and incitements to

"repentance"

.

In fact, during the previous five-year term, Sarah El Haïry was in tune with Jean-Michel Blanquer, the former Minister of National Education on these republican issues.

But unlike her former minister, replaced by Pap Ndiaye in the government and eliminated in the first round of the legislative elections, she managed to pass the ballot box, retaining her mandate as deputy for the 5th constituency of Loire-Atlantique. .
