After two years of health crisis, it is a very high-risk mission that is entrusted to François Braun, who has just been appointed Minister of Health and Prevention in the second government of Élisabeth Borne, thus succeeding Brigitte Bourguignon, who had to leave his post following his defeat in the legislative elections.

Head of emergencies at the regional hospital center (CHR) in Metz-Thionville and president of the influential Samu-Urgences de France association, Dr. Braun will therefore be in charge of applying the remedies he himself prescribed in the report. returned last week to Elisabeth Borne, following the “flash mission” entrusted by Emmanuel Macron a month earlier.
François Braun will also have to prepare and lead the
“big consultation”
on access to care promised by the Head of State.
In the report submitted last week, François Braun made 41 recommendations on unscheduled care and emergencies, all accepted by the head of government.
He defended in particular the systematic regulation of access to emergencies, partially implemented in a certain number of hospitals, including Bordeaux and Grenoble, to face a summer which promises to be very difficult.
He is also a great defender of the Care Access Service (SAS), launched as part of the Pact for the overhaul of emergencies in 2019, which allows rapid care in city medicine of patients in need of rapid care, but not within the scope of the emergency services.
A family of doctors
The 59-year-old emergency physician comes from a long line of doctors: his father was a general practitioner and firefighter, his grandfather and great-grandfather military doctors.
François Braun had already been one of Emmanuel Macron's "health referents" during the presidential campaign, alongside his colleague Dr Sébastien Mirek, anesthesiologist-resuscitator at the Dijon University Hospital, and the president of the national council of the Order of physiotherapists Pascale Mathieu.
His arrival is greeted with circumspection by the nursing world.
Many fear in particular his vision very centered on the hospital and in particular the emergencies, and consider that he does not know enough the medicine of city yet it also in great difficulties.
He is also accused of a very liberal vision of the hospital, which makes the Collectif Inter-Hôpitaux fear, for example, in a press release released today,
"a decline in access to care and the dismantling of the public hospital"
