A large fire broke out today (Monday) in the lowlands, following which 1,100 children and teenagers, members of the Scout movement, who were in a summer camp, were evacuated.
The fire broke out in a field of thorns in the area of Beit Uziel and is spreading towards Carmei Yosef in Tel Gezer.
Large firefighters arrived in the area to deal with the blaze.
Many crews were operating on the ground and in parallel four planes and two firefighting helicopters were launched.
The Scout movement said that "the traffic is well prepared for situations of this kind. This morning we even carried out an evacuation exercise in the same forest that is now evacuated. At the moment, the campers are marching to an organized evacuation point, where 35 buses will take them to Latrun "They will return to the camp or be released to their homes, depending of course on developments regarding the fire. The trainees are accompanied and wrapped by the instructors, graduates and parents who stay with them and take care of all their needs. We are in constant contact with the police and relevant authorities."
Last month, a large fire broke out in the Jerusalem mountains, in an open area between the localities of Mevaseret Zion, Kiryat Anavim, Beit Nekofa and Har Adar.
Large firefighters arrived to put out the fire, preventing it from spreading to other localities in the area.
