The Peißenberg charcoal burning days came to an end with a rich harvest.

More than a ton of charcoal was pulled from the circular kiln.

The organizing association "Bier & Tradition" drew a positive conclusion - even if not quite as many visitors came to the fairground on the Moosleite due to the weather.

Peißenberg

– “The mood was pleasant.

From our side everything was wonderful.

It worked.” Franz-Josef Fischer, the head of the “Bier & Tradition” club, was already impressed with the sixth edition of the “Peißenberger Köhlertage” on Friday morning when the circular kiln was opened.

The mood should have gotten even better on Saturday, because then it was clear: The steaming round kiln filled with almost 20 Ster wood produced 1100 kilograms of charcoal - and in the best quality.

The amount was filled into 110 bags and sold on Sunday morning.

By burning slowly, the charcoal stores more energy

Led by "Oberköhler" Ludwig Hutter from Bad Kohlgrub, the association "Bier & Tradition" has long had the technical know-how.

Due to the slow burning, the charcoal stores more energy than compared to industrial production processes.

The calorific value is correspondingly higher.

"The professional competence in our club is really great," praises Fischer.

The traditional charcoal burning would also arouse the interest of the population: "Many say: 'It's nice that something like this exists,'" reports Fischer.

“That encourages us not to let it fall asleep.

Even if the effort is enormous and the active members of the association are not getting any younger.” In addition to recruiting more young people, Fischer also envisages organizing the next edition of the Köhlertage in cooperation with other associations.

Clubs could present themselves in the future and design the supporting program

A start has already been made this year when “Frohsinn 2000” organized a family afternoon.

The associations, according to Fischer's idea, could present themselves via the platform of the Köhlertage and provide the spectacle around the kiln: "We need associations that create a framework for us." The next edition of the Köhlertage should take place in two or three years.

Hopefully the weather will play along better then.

Due to the rainy weather, the start of the charcoal burner days had to be postponed by one day (we reported).

And the wetness depressed the number of visitors.

“The response wasn't that great, even though we're satisfied.

It went off as normal,” explains the second board member, Johann Mayr.

Music groups were hired on two evenings.

Otherwise there were also spontaneous cozy rounds.

One evening, for example, an accordion player came to the Moosleite and gave a free concert.

By the way: During the charcoal burning days, not only was wood burned or charred, but also the regrowth of the raw material was ensured.

In the course of the "1000 trees for Peißenberg" campaign initiated by the CSU local association, 25 young tribes were brought out among the people: "That fitted into our framework," said Fischer, summing up the very successful event.
