Cologne has had a new city logo since July 1st – without the Cologne Cathedral.

This is intended to make the Cologne logo look more modern.

But there is criticism.

Cologne – Cologne without Cologne Cathedral?

Actually unthinkable.

And yet the city of Cologne has now thrown the two cathedral spiers out of the city logo.

Since July 1, 2022, there has been a new and, above all, simpler logo instead of the white cathedral spiers on a red background.

The city wants to look more modern with this, reports 24RHEIN.

New Cologne logo: "Concise, recognizable" and more modern

The city of Cologne recently explained that the "dusty" logo was simply no longer up to date.

This should have been examined by experts as part of a new communication strategy for 2021.

"In particular, the brand image and the logo no longer meet modern requirements, especially with regard to digital applications such as the Internet presence and in the social media area," the city explains its decision.

Well, do you notice?

The new logo is "concise, recognizable and can be used across media".

But what exactly does it look like now?

Instead of the black two-headed eagle from the city coat of arms, the white lettering "Stadt Köln" and the white cathedral spiers on a red background, the new city logo is simpler.

Only the red two-headed eagle and the red lettering "City of Cologne" can be seen.

After all, the Cologne colors "Rut un wiess" have remained true.

From now on, the new and "more concise" city logo will shine on official letters and even on the city's website.

Cologne: Despite expert help - new city logo has so far failed

But that doesn't go down well with everyone.

The criticism surrounding the new Cologne logo was huge right up to the end.

"Dat jitt et but jaanitt", "Could be mistaken for a premature April Fool's joke" and "The city is bored and has too much money, I personally like the old logo better", among other things, it said on Facebook.

And the new city logo has also made a real crash landing with the 24RHEIN readers.

A full 96 percent of voters found the old logo better (as of July 1).

Only four percent find the new appearance more modern.

But that can change again - maybe it's all a matter of getting used to it.
