In appreciation of their efforts as being the first building block for the future of generations, the Ministry of Culture honored a group of teachers from the Ministry of Culture and Education, the Syrian National Committee for UNESCO and the local community participating in the Alternative Learning Program for Youth in Syria, established in cooperation with UNESCO.

During the event, hosted by the Arab Cultural Center in Mezzeh, a documentary film was shown of excerpts from adult education and cultural development courses for the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, which targeted 5,000 young men and women who are not enrolled in school, aged 15 and over.

The Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mushawah, pointed to the importance of building young people intellectually, scientifically and cognitively in order to build the future of Syria, stressing the need to strengthen the directions aimed at eliminating illiteracy as one of the development challenges that require concerted efforts by all to overcome it.

The Director of Adult Education and Cultural Development at the Ministry of Culture, Bassam Diop, explained that the goal of this program is to train 5,000 students from Damascus, Damascus countryside and Aleppo to find alternative learning within a short period that lasted less than a month, as it received a positive response, and there is a demand to repeat this experience with UNESCO.

The Secretary-General of the Syrian National Committee for UNESCO in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Nidal Al-Hassan, indicated the importance of the national program on alternative learning to provide educational and intellectual assistance to those who have problems in reading, writing and arithmetic. .

Fatima Al-Sheikh, head of the Qatif Center and a teacher in the Adult Education and Cultural Development Program, pointed out the importance of these activities and initiatives to remedy the educational shortage of children who were forced by the war to leave their schools, pointing to the good turnout in Qatif and Jirud in light of the concerted efforts of those concerned, wishing that these initiatives would include all governorates.

Reem Sheikh Hamdan, a participant in the Education Group (Category B), pointed out that the curricula they adopted for students of this group of different ages included Arabic, mathematics and life skills, in addition to focusing on how to establish small projects that contribute to their practical life.

The event was attended by the Director of Damascus Countryside Education Maher Farag, the Director of Damascus Countryside Culture Ibrahim Al-Saeed and the Director of Damascus Culture Naima Suleiman.
