Hezbollah UAVs Intercepted by the IDF, July 2, 2022 (IDF Spokesman)

IDF Air Force pilots had difficulty shooting down an unmanned Hezbollah aircraft launched at a shark rig on Saturday, a preliminary IDF investigation revealed today (Sunday).

It also appears that the fighters did not even notice another UAV that was launched at the rig - and it was shot down by launching a "lightning" missile from a navy AHI ship.

Over the weekend, the IDF boasted of intercepting three Hezbollah unmanned aerial vehicles en route to the Shark gas rig in Israel's economic waters. By fighter jets and a missile ship.

Preliminary investigation shows that the suspicious targets were identified by the air control unit and means of detection.

After the Air Force unequivocally determined that these were Hezbollah UAVs - a pair of fighter jets from the Valley Squadron were launched.

Later, another missile was fired at the UAV - but it did not hit the target.

The third UAV was difficult for fighter pilots to identify because it was flying at low altitude.

Therefore, it was decided in consultations between senior officials to allow the commander of the ship, Eilat, to intercept the two problematic UAVs - which he clearly identified from the ship using the advanced systems.

For the purpose of the mission, the airspace is evacuated from Air Force aircraft.

Military sources clarified that the issue is still under investigation
