Truck falls from the bridge and catches fire - three seriously injured in the subsequent accident

On Monday morning (July 4th) four people were injured in accidents, some of them life-threatening, on the A44 in the Kassel district.
Update from Monday, July 4th, 2:45 p.m .:
After the two serious accidents on Monday morning (July 4th) on the A44 in the direction of Kassel, all closures have been lifted.
This was announced by the North Hessian police in the early afternoon.
The investigators were also able to provide additional information about what was happening on the highway, as reported by hna.de.
Accordingly, the truck that fell from a bridge between Breuna and Zierenberg also caused damage to the crash barrier, the bridge base and the corridor: a total of 10,000 euros.
A further 70,000 euros in property damage is added to the completely destroyed vehicle itself.
Its driver, a 55-year-old from the Hochsauerland district, is seriously injured in the hospital.

More was also known about the victims of a subsequent accident between Warburg and Breuna.
There, at the end of the traffic jam, a van drove “almost unbraked” sideways into a truck that was parked on the hard shoulder and then threw itself into a Kia.
A 46-year-old from Fulda is in mortal danger as a result of the collision.
He was in the van with two other men and was transported to Kassel by rescue helicopter.
The 41-year-old driver and another 18-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries.
The 75-year-old Kia driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
According to initial estimates, the accident caused damage of 45,000 euros.

Two accidents on the A44 in the direction of Kassel trigger a long traffic jam
First report from Monday, July 4th, 12:48 p.m.:
Kassel/Breuna – On Monday morning (July 4th) there were two serious accidents on the A44 in the direction of Kassel.
Around 6 a.m. between Breuna and Zierenberg (both in the Kassel district), a truck came off the road, fell several meters down the embankment on a bridge and caught fire, as the North Hessian police confirmed.
First responders got the driver of the truck out of the demolished driver's cab, which was not yet on fire at the time.
The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but is not believed to be life-threatening.
"The accident could have been much worse," said a police spokeswoman.

The truck burned almost completely.
According to initial investigations, the cause of the accident could have been a blown tire.
At the moment the clean-up work is still going on, the broken articulated lorry is lying on a dirt road below the A44.
Motorists must therefore expect restrictions on the Autobahn north-west of Kassel.

At around 8:50 a.m., a second accident happened at the end of the traffic jam between Breuna and Warburg.
There, a van first drove into a truck and then crashed into a Kia.
Three people were seriously injured and one involved suffered minor injuries.
Here, too, the salvage work is still ongoing.
The cause of the accident is still unclear.
According to the police, traffic was backed up on the A44 for up to twelve kilometers.
In the meantime, at least one lane in the direction of Kassel has been released again.
According to the police, it is not yet foreseeable how long the clean-up work on the motorway will take.
