Andriy Melnyk is apparently about to move to Kyiv.
The Ukrainian ambassador in Berlin could soon leave Germany.
Berlin - Andriy Melnyk will soon no longer be the Ukrainian ambassador in Berlin.
As
Bild
reports, citing Ukrainian sources, the Zelenskyi government has other plans.
There are plans that Melnyk should end his diplomatic job in Germany and move to the Foreign Ministry in Kyiv.
Apparently, Melnyk could become deputy foreign minister there.
The change from Berlin could take place before autumn.
Melnyk has been ambassador in Berlin for eight years.
During the Ukraine war, Melnyk repeatedly made headlines.
He described Chancellor Olaf Scholz as "offended liverwurst" because he did not want to travel to Kyiv after Frank-Walter Steinmeier had been invited.
In addition, Melnyk repeatedly demanded arms deliveries from Germany and acted as an important Ukrainian voice in Germany.
Most recently, he caused outrage with statements about the former Ukrainian nationalist leader Stepan Bandera.
In an interview with the journalist Tilo Jung, Melnyk had described Bandera as a "freedom fighter" and denied his responsibility for the massacre of Jews and Poles in World War II.
Ukraine then distanced itself from the ambassador.
However, the alleged job change should have nothing to do with the statements.
