Weather: temperatures close to 40°C in the South-East, yellow vigilance in the heat wave

2022-07-04T13:34:38.354Z

They will remain very high on Tuesday, especially in the Var, before dropping a few degrees on Wednesday.

The thermometer has been showing very high since this weekend in the Southeast.

With temperatures around 40°C.

No heat wave alert has been officially launched, but special vigilance is in force.

Météo France thus places seven departments in the south-east of the country on yellow vigilance (level 2 out of 4) at the heat wave, which does not correspond to an alert strictly speaking since it would require an orange level (3 out of 4).

Are concerned by the yellow vigilance: Corse-du-Sud, Haute-Corse, Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, Gard, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Vaucluse.

For a heat wave alert to be officially triggered, a certain level of temperature is needed both during the day and at night.

It is also necessary that these levels are reached at least three days in a row.

The trigger thresholds vary according to the territory.

The guideline is simple: the more the departments are in the south of France, the higher the level to trigger a heat wave alert, the authorities considering that the populations are more used to the heat in the south of the country.

Sunday, however, it was nearly 40 ° C in several departments.

Thus 39°C were recorded in Apt, in the Vaucluse, and 38.9°C in Lapalud in the same department.

It was 38.8°C in Mayons (Var), 37.9°C in Castirla (Haute-Corse) or 37.4°C in Montélimar (Drôme).

A little over 39°C was recorded on a station of the secondary network, that is to say a station which is not officially part of the Météo France network.

The night from Sunday to Monday remained above 20 ° C in almost all of the territories in yellow vigilance.

#Heat wave: very hot temperatures again this afternoon in the south-east of the country.

This Monday afternoon, temperatures between 36 ° C and 38 ° C were recorded in the Var from 2 p.m.

This is for example the case once again in Mayons, with 38.3 ° C precisely, but also in Montfort-sur-Argens or Saint-Antonin-du-Var.

At the same time, the Castirla station (Haute-Corse) reached 38.3°C.

Slightly to the northeast, in Scata, just over 37°C was measured.

On Tuesday, the situation will remain the same in the departments affected by these very high temperatures.

It is in the Var department, inland, that temperatures will continue to show the highest values.

From Wednesday, they will decrease by 3°C to 5°C but will remain above, or even significantly above 30°C.

Regarding Corsica, the decline in daytime temperatures, again with a decrease of between 3°C and 5°C, is expected from Tuesday.
