Convince the opposition?
Rather push them to abstention.
In the absence of a coalition, Elisabeth Borne must face the facts: she finds herself with a very relative majority of only 250 Macronist deputies – Renaissance (ex-LREM), MoDem, Horizons – out of 577 elected to the National Assembly.
Majority on a "case by case" basis, sometimes with a part of the left, sometimes with a section of the right, if possible with "various"... The Prime Minister promises to play the score of compromise.
In fact, in order to have its laws adopted, it has abandoned the idea of systematically obtaining an absolute majority of 289 votes “for”.
Too tedious.
Not necessary either.
His new bet: to avoid facing 289 “against” votes.
The antidote?
The “constructive abstention” of the oppositions.
It is not a question of conquering them, but of disarming them.
First example: the vote on the motion of censure tabled by the United Left.
It should not be adopted, thanks to the abstention of the Republicans (LR)…
