A long and dignified life: this is the dream of many Munich residents who have worked for decades and contributed to the prosperity of the state capital.

But is that possible in everyday life?

"Unfortunately not often," says Elli Aldag (78) from Neuhausen.

She describes the problems of the Munich seniors.

Munich – Elli Aldag (78) sent a letter to our editors to describe the problems faced by seniors that keep coming up.

In front of the front door, on sidewalks or in the city center.

Above all, the elderly woman, who suffers from Parkinson's disease and has been walking with a cane for years, complains about recklessness.

This year alone, Elli Aldag has been involved in collisions five times.

The bad result: "I broke a rib," says the 78-year-old.

And shows her record of terror:

Munich: 78-year-old involved in five accidents - here she shows her record of horror

-

March 22:

On the sidewalk in Volkartstraße, a cyclist raced from behind just past the elderly woman.

"Because of the nervous tension, I fell half an hour later on the sidewalk on Nymphenburger Straße without any external influence," says Elli Aldag.

The next day she has to go to the Red Cross Hospital with pain.

-

May 2:

The doors close at Hohenzollernplatz as the 78-year-old exits the U1.

"I fell onto the platform," she says.

"Unfortunately, the driver didn't react."

-

May 7th:

Aldag gets off tram 20 at Heideckstrasse.

“For me, getting up from a sitting position is particularly difficult,” she says.

"A middle-aged passenger helped me get out and escorted me closely behind me across Dachauer Strasse."

Stolen!

She had just withdrawn the money.

-

May 27:

At Rotkreuzplatz, Aldag is trapped in the door as she gets off the 12 tram.

-

June 30th:

In front of the Sarcletti ice cream parlour, Aldag is almost "shot down", as she puts it, by a ghost cyclist with a trailer.

He drove on the wrong side.

Opposite, she crosses Nymphenburger Straße.

“The green phase wasn't enough for me.

That was really stressful," says Elli Aldag, adding sadly: "Who is surprised when older people no longer dare to go out on the street?

Today's Munich scares me and many other seniors too."

The 78-year-old demands support from the city and the police - and tougher penalties for bully cyclists.

“The situation is getting worse and worse,” says Aldag.

"As a result of such a sidewalk accident, we seniors can not only lose our health, but also our independence."

Once robust, today "shaky", Aldag describes himself. "I ask all the more that more attention is paid to us seniors."
