"They were so infinitely happy" - moving funeral service for Franzi and Severin

Around 600 mourners said goodbye to Franzi Fischer and Severin Obert.

Franzi Fischer (19) and Severin Obert (20) died in a tragic mountain accident.

Since then, there has been disbelief in her homeland.

At the funeral service it became clear what wonderful people they were, how much they were loved and how much they loved the mountains.

Pipinsried – "Thank you Franzi for letting me be your girlfriend." And: "Severin, we've experienced so much great shit." And again and again: "We can't believe what happened." beautifully designed funeral service on Tuesday afternoon on the parish square in Pipinsried.

The mourners cried together, held each other in their arms, offered consolation.

And they all remembered Franzi Fischer (19) from Pipinsried and Severin Obert (20) from Glonn, who died in a mountain accident on June 25th.

The families and friends had placed pictures of Franzi and Severin on tables at the edge of the parish square, in the shade of the large trees: pictures from their childhood, with their siblings and parents, from family celebrations.

Pictures in which the two kiss and laugh together.

"They were infinitely happy, you can see that in the photos," said theologian Dr.

Christian Rupprecht, who gave the eulogy.

The theologian tried to “put into words something that cannot be said”.

And he knew about the questions "that plague us now: Could we have prevented that somehow?

Couldn't God on the mountain have stretched out his protective hand to both of them?” According to the speaker, there is no answer to these questions.

"We must let go of the question of why in order to live on in peace."

The eulogy was framed by touching music, Franzi's music teacher and a young person sang and played Franzi's and Severin's favorite songs on the guitar.

The funeral speaker described the deceased in a touching way.

Franzi, honest, conscientious, fair and fun-loving, whose mere presence conjured up happiness in a room and who was appreciated by everyone for her loving nature. She completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk.

Severin, who has always loved nature and founded the Glonner Rocker with his brother.

He bought an electric guitar from his first training salary - later he had a new sanctuary: his car.

"Franzi and Severin would not have wanted you to break up over their death."

The two have been a couple since the summer of 2019.

They were inseparable, said Rupprecht, they were together every weekend, during the week they talked on the phone for hours, they were endlessly happy.

"A harmonious couple, anchored in their families."

At the beginning of 2021, Franzi and Severin discovered mountain hiking, and later also via ferratas.

"They were always prepared, equipped, planned everything meticulously." The first holiday together led to the foot of the Grossglockner.

"They practiced abseiling from the ceiling in their room at home."

On Saturday, June 25th, they set off early in the morning for the Karwendel.

The goal: the Tiefkarspitze.

At 3 p.m., the parents received a Whatsapp: "We're already on our way back." The GPS showed that the two got off.

Suddenly there was no signal.

"A whole piece of rock must have come loose and carried Franzi and Severin away," said Rupprecht.

The funeral speaker looked into many crying faces.

"Franzi and Severin would not have wanted you to break up because of their death." And he asked the mourners to remember the many beautiful moments with these two wonderful people: "Because you live twice.

The first time in reality and the second time in memory.”

“Severin was still there during the last exercise.” With these words, Peter Doll, chairman of the Markt Indersdorf fire brigade, began his little speech in which he wanted to show the families of Franzi and Severin that they are not alone in their grief.

He reviewed Severin's career in the fire brigade and said that Severin went on assignments as often as possible.

"We put a picture of him in his locker."

While the music continued, the mourners could say goodbye in a special way: by writing or drawing a personal greeting or a small picture on the coffins in the funeral parlor.

The burial will take place in the closest family circle at the cemetery in Pipinsried.
