Long queues at check-in and in front of the security check - airports in Germany are at the limit.

There is a lack of staff everywhere.

Specialists from abroad should now help promptly.

Düsseldorf/Berlin – Air passengers must have good nerves at the moment.

Hours of waiting at the airport are grueling.

The flight to the summer vacation is like a gamble.

Flights are simply canceled at short notice.

Many vacationers often only get the message at the airport.

There is a lack of staff everywhere.

At check-in, in security checks and in aircraft handling.

Many positions are vacant.

The Corona downsizing is now taking revenge.

Example Düsseldorf Airport (NRW): at the weekend there were sometimes chaotic conditions with luggage.

A malfunction in the baggage transport system may have been the reason for this.

Many passengers probably landed at the holiday destination without a suitcase.

In a joint action, the federal government now wants to remedy the situation for the airports, reports the

picture on Sunday (BamS).

Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP), Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) and Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) are now pulling together.

The aim is to bring skilled workers from Turkey to Germany, as the newspaper writes, citing government circles.

This solution was already mentioned in the ARD talk show "Hart aber fair".

2,000 trained workers are available in Turkey who could help with baggage handling at German airports, said Matthias von Randow, head of the Federal Association of the German Aviation Industry (BDL).

According to Randow, the problem is that according to German law, it must be checked in each individual case whether personnel can also be found on the German labor market for the work.

In Randow's view, these individual reviews took far too long.

Now a "quick" solution is apparently on the horizon, although last week Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing did not expect things to ease up at German airports any time soon:

  • Transport Minister Wissing

takes the situation seriously and would like to help the citizens together with Faeser and Heil.

Personnel bottlenecks should be eliminated and a temporary solution presented, Wissing explained according to

    BamS

    .

  • Minister of Labor Heil

wants to enable urgently needed personnel to enter Germany for temporary work.

“We want to rule out any form of social dumping and exploitation.

Employers have to pay collective wages and provide decent accommodation for a limited time," said Heil in the

    BamS

    .

  • Assistants from abroad could be used to handle baggage, said

    Interior Minister Faeser

    .

But when it comes to security, "there are no compromises," emphasizes the SPD minister.

"I am very grateful to the federal police that they ensure that we can all fly safely with such massive deployment of personnel."

Critical point of security control – Düsseldorf Airport counteracts this

While there was a problem with the luggage at Düsseldorf Airport, the critical point of the security check ran smoothly.

"We have to wait 10 to 15 minutes in Düsseldorf and are very satisfied with that," said a spokesman for the federal police, as reported by the dpa news agency.

The Federal Police was able to hire a second service provider to provide support just in time.

The main service provider also recruited additional support staff.
