Tohamy said: “It is a matter of pride and honor to commemorate this memory on the Arab land of Syria, and to salute our brothers in its dear lands, the leadership and the people, for their support for Algeria’s attainment of its independence, which came as the culmination of the struggle of successive popular resistances since colonialism trampled the land of Algeria, especially on its head. The resistance of Emir Abdelkader Al-Jazaery, whose heroic, intellectual and human exploits enriched world civilization and strengthened his stay in the Levant from the historical balance of the Algerian-Syrian relations, which have always been distinguished by what they know of popular cohesion and the continuous keenness of the leaderships of the two countries to strengthen bridges of communication, consultation and coordination between them and the sincere and common desire of both sides In continuing to search for all available partnership opportunities in order to support and enrich bilateral relations in various fields, which is the task undertaken by the Joint Committee for Cooperation.”

It covered many economic and cultural sectors that the two countries are working to activate to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples and their aspiration for more cooperation, cohesion and solidarity.

Tohamy referred to the status of the Al-Jazaery family and the Algerian community in Syria, where the sons, grandsons and brothers of Emir Abdelkader played pivotal roles in the history of Damascus and the region. The Algerians and the Syrians is the solid rock on which the brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries were built, which was manifested in Syria’s support for the glorious liberation revolution in Algeria and Algeria’s support for the international efforts aimed at resolving the crisis in Syria through dialogue between the Syrians without any foreign interference and in a manner that guarantees the sovereignty, independence and unity of the Syrian territories and Algeria’s aspiration to restore Syria's Arab, regional and international role.

Tohamy pointed out that with the aim of highlighting this memory and other features of Algeria's glorious history full of victories, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, placed the issue of memory at the top of his program's priorities and decided to make the eighth of May of each year a national day of memory with the launch of the National Memory Program and the establishment of a television channel It deals with the collective memory of the Algerian people and its history, calling on historians to clarify all aspects of the struggle history of the Algerian people in the memory of the nation in fairness to the right of the rising generations to know their past in the most accurate details.
