Great sadness for Andrea Otto: The radio presenter and sports journalist died last Friday after a serious illness at the age of just 47.

She worked for Bayerischer Rundfunk, including Bayern 3 and BR5 aktuell, for many years and was deployed all over the world.

Munich – The German and especially Bavarian media landscape mourns the loss of a familiar face: Andrea Otto, who worked as a sports journalist for Bayerischer Rundfunk and ARD for many years, died at the age of only 47, as reported by tz.de.

Originally from Pfaffenhofen and raised in Rohrbach, the Munich native switched to journalism in the early 1990s.

Before that, she completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller.

After a few engagements for radio and various daily newspapers, she finally joined Bayerischer Rundfunk in 2000.

At the beginning of her career, she was often deployed there for Bayern 3 and B5, where she was valued for her expertise and versatility as a sports journalist - so much so that the presenter soon made the leap from radio to television: from 2007 she was in charge among other things by "Blickpunkt Sport" (from 2007) and "Abendschau - Der Sued" (from 2012).

She was also active in winter sports (especially ski jumping, cross-country skiing, biathlon) for ARD.

Andrea Otto also traveled the world for public broadcasters, reporting on the Winter Olympics in Turin (2006), Vancouver (2010) and Sochi (2014), the Summer Olympics in Beijing (2008) and London (2012). and the Football World Cup in Russia (2018).

Last Friday (July 1st) she succumbed to her illness after a serious illness and leaves behind a husband and a daughter.

Before her death, Andrea Otto was not only active as a sports journalist, but also increasingly as a relaxation trainer and stress therapist.

For viewers of public broadcasting, it is the second, heavy loss within a few days: actor and Böhmermann speaker William Cohn died on June 30 at the age of 65.
