This year many travelers are venturing abroad again for their holidays.
But the Corona numbers are currently rising again, especially in popular holiday regions.
"The virus will not go away just because countries stop monitoring it," WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge recently told n-tv.
The World Health Organization is concerned that the number of infections in Europe has tripled in recent weeks - so the summer wave is becoming a reality.
Currently, most of the countries with the highest incidences per 100,000 inhabitants are on this continent.
These include
Germany, Portugal, France, Italy, Greece and Austria
, as a WHO map in the last weekly report shows.

Corona summer wave is noticeable in Greek holiday regions
Greece in particular shows how strongly the virus is spreading in holiday regions.
Young people aged 18 to 24
are particularly affected by the currently increasing number of infections
, and this age group
mainly in tourist regions
, according to the Greek health authority on Monday.
The number of new infections recently increased on the
islands of Corfu, Kefalonia and Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea
.
But
Crete and the region of Attica, including the capital Athens
, are also affected – as is the
southern Aegean with islands such as Mykonos, Rhodes, Kos and Paros
.
According to the experts, however, there are also positive things to report: Despite the increasing number of infections, the intensive care units have not been more heavily burdened so far.

The Greek health authority counted
around 11,700 new infections within 24 hours on Sunday
.
A week earlier, there were just 3,700 new cases.
Greece had abolished most of the corona measures at the start of the tourist season in May.
Exceptions are the health sector with hospitals and nursing homes as well as local public transport.
This also includes the ferries – masks must still be worn inside the ships.
In view of the summer wave, Kluge also advises that people should isolate themselves if they have respiratory symptoms and keep their vaccinations up to date.
A mask is recommended in busy places.
