The Directorate of Hygiene in the Damascus Governorate removed more than 495 thousand tons of waste and organized more than 4900 seizures of violations of the hygiene law.

The director of hygiene in the governorate, Eng. Imad Al-Ali, said in a statement to SANA reporter that about 495 thousand tons of waste collected from the city and transported to landfill and treatment sites, 700 tons of transported medical waste, and more than 73 thousand cubic meters of rubble and dust were transferred to approved landfills during the first half. of this year.

Al-Ali pointed out that 231 plastic waste baskets were installed in the streets and neighborhoods of the city and its markets, and more than 4,900 arrests were made against violators of the hygiene law No. 49 of 2004.

Al-Ali pointed out that the Directorate’s mechanisms transport and relay waste at a rate of two or three times a day, as the city was divided into sectors to ensure access to the various neighborhoods and regions, and the supervision of an engineer on each sector, which includes a group of centers, in addition to the workshops carrying out rinsing the main and secondary streets according to a permanent program.

Al-Ali stressed the need to adhere to the rules of general hygiene in terms of throwing garbage and placing it in the places designated for it, and not throwing rubble, dust and construction and repair waste outside containers or on main roads.
