The Italian authorities announced today that the death toll from the avalanche that occurred last Sunday in the Italian Alps has risen to seven, while eight missing climbers have been found.
Reuters quoted the authorities as saying: "The avalanche that occurred on Mount Marmolada, which is the highest peak in the Dolomites, one of the eastern Italian Alps mountain ranges, has killed seven people, while the number of missing has decreased to five after eight of them were found."
The search continued today after a huge mass separated from the Marmolada glacier, which is more than 3,300 meters high, with an intensification of the number of drones and helicopters, although the chances of finding survivors are slim.
The huge glacier collapsed near Punta Roca on the route usually used by mountaineers to reach the summit.
