A Spanish hiker, born in 1986 and resident in London, has been found dead this Tuesday in the Dolomites, in the Italian Alps, after getting lost while traveling a route alone, a spokesman for the Veneto Alpine Rescue confirmed to EFE.
The search began this Monday, at the request of his brother, who warned that his relative had not shown up for work at his post in London.
The deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been found at a point on the Alta Via number 1 of the Dolomites.
Rescuers have explained that he took a wrong path at a fork and ended up falling off a cliff about 50 meters.
According to the Italian media, the hiker had spent the night at the Pramperet refuge last Friday, and on Saturday he left for the town of Belluno (80 kilometers north of Venice), where he never arrived.
Following the traces of the mobile phone, and using the data recorded by the repeater antennas in the area, the search was restricted to an area where a Civil Protection helicopter from the Veneto Region went with a team of rescuers and firefighters.
They placed a portable device on a nearby summit that simulates being a mobile antenna and thus captured the signal and the approximate location of the missing person's phone.
Finally, at 9.40 on that Tuesday, a rescue team that was touring the area on foot spotted the body of the hiker, who had been transferred by helicopter.
Foreign sources have informed Europa Press that the Consulate General in Milan is in charge of the procedures and in contact with the family of the deceased, to assist them in whatever is necessary in these circumstances.
The incident is not related to the collapse of the Marmolada glacier that this Sunday has left seven fatalities.
The number of missing persons fell to eight people on Tuesday, after locating four foreigners and an Italian who were already safe, while the drones and helicopters that are being used for the search have located some remains and objects.
