Prime Minister Yair Lapid told a briefing in Paris that he did not rule out a meeting between him and Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen, but stressed that such a meeting is not currently on the table.
why is it important
When he served as Foreign Minister, Lapid did not meet with Abu Mazen, in part because of a request by former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Lapid also has several meetings with the Minister of Civil Affairs of the Hussein al-Sheikh Authority.
What they say
"I do not do meetings for the sake of meetings unless they have a positive result for Israel. At the moment it is not on the agenda, but I do not rule it out," Lapid said.
Lapid said that he and President Macron discussed the Palestinian issue at their meeting, even though it was not the main topic of conversation.
He stressed that he does not think there will be any progress on the Palestinian issue before the election.
"The composition of the government and the restrictions on the Palestinian issue remain as they were. The French have legitimate questions but they understand what the government can or cannot do," Lapid said, referring to Macron's call to resume negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Iranian issue was the main issue in the conversation between Lapid and Makron.
The prime minister said he had stressed to the French president that at the moment there does not appear to be a new nuclear deal and therefore an alternative plan should be considered.
"If the Iranians are not ready to return to the current nuclear deal they will not agree to any agreement until there is a credible military option on the table," Lapid said.
Lapid noted that he presented Macron with intelligence material on Hezbollah concerning the organization's operations, which also concern France.
He stressed that Israel wants to cooperate with France to prevent escalation in Lebanon "and so that we do not have to use military force because we will not hesitate to act to prevent attacks on the gas rig."
