From geothermal energy to street lighting: environmental officer Volker Witte (Greens) reported on current projects to the city council.

Geretsried – The first part is followed by the second part: Volker Witte, City Council Officer for the Environment, Climate Protection and Energy, went into the last two points of his sphere of activity at the most recent city council meeting.

The topics ranged from geothermal energy to street lighting.

The Green City Council recalled the discussion about the so-called "Buchberger Zipfel", which was under discussion as a location for geothermal energy.

"Ultimately, a good decision was made for everyone involved with the Breitenbach estate, which has already been drilled twice," Witte summed up.

According to the environmental officer, construction of the facility for drilling the Eavor Loops is expected to begin in October of this year.

The subject of district heating for Geretsried, which is dependent on this, is now with the municipal utilities.

The solution for the heat supply for Geretsried is a decisive contribution to climate neutrality and security of supply.

PV systems are intended to reduce property maintenance costs

The aim of the city is to install photovoltaic systems on all suitable roofs of municipal properties to cover its own needs economically.

There are currently such systems at the Karl Lederer elementary school, the intermunicipal indoor swimming pool, the Isardamm elementary school, the x-Träger hall at the recycling center, the Isarau multi-purpose building and the kindergarten in Gelting.

The municipal energy manager Roswitha Foißner is currently examining all other properties to see whether a PV system is statically possible and makes economic sense and how much money is needed for it.

According to Witte, the presentation of the concept is planned for the summer.

On the roofs of the extended lunchtime care at the Lederer elementary school, the new daycare center on Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße and on the roof of the funeral parlor, which is currently being renovated,

PV systems are planned.

"This is the only way we can keep the maintenance costs of our properties under control in the long term."

18 e-charging options at four locations

With the opening of the multi-storey car park at the inter-municipal indoor pool, there are now twelve more e-charging points in the city.

There are currently 18 in total at four locations.

"In the last meeting, the building committee commissioned the administration to examine six other locations that can hopefully be built next year," reported Witte.

In 2020, the city launched an energy advice campaign.

Almost 100 building checks could be mediated.

"Since then - also due to the increase in energy prices and the (in)security of supply - the demand for advice has increased significantly," reported the Geretsrieder.

Inquiries for consultation appointments and building checks are currently being received almost every day.

A lecture on the topic of heating renewal is planned for the autumn.

Street lighting will continue to be upgraded

The street lighting is gradually being converted to insect-friendly LED technology.

"In the night hours, the modern lights reduce their output even more," says Witte.

“This saves extra energy and money.

We hope to have more money available for the conversion for 2023.” The spotlights at the north fire station have already been converted, as has the lighting in the vehicle hall.

This year the old lighting of the Geltinger church tower is to be modernized.

"After 11 p.m., the light must not and must not be on," said Witte.

The order has been placed and will be carried out as soon as the lighting is delivered.
