- What was the origin of this documentary on your father?
Marco MORRICONE.
- The producers Gianni Russo and Gabriele Costa came to my house to offer my father to orchestrate a documentary about his life.
My father thought for a moment, then got up to phone.
I learned later that in reality he had telephoned Giuseppe Tornatore, the director of
Cinema Paradiso
, to find out if he would accept the job.
Tornator accepted.
Filming began on December 29, 2014. It lasted five and a half years, because it was not easy to bring everyone together...
What do you think of the result?
When I saw the first cut, which was six hours long, I walked out in tears and went to kiss Tornatore.
From his beginnings on the trumpet, following in his father's footsteps, to the Oscar, passing through his years at the conservatory, I find that the film perfectly reflects Ennio Morricone's journey.
The fact of composing film music was for him a suffering and a torment…
