The Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in As-Suwayda Governorate initially estimated the governorate’s total production of olive fruits for the next season at about 7803 tons, mostly for rainfed crops.
The Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Ayham Hamed, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that the estimated production of the olive crop is acceptable compared to the weather conditions, and that the directorate is working to provide advice to farmers and follow up on the general condition of the crop and insect infestations when they occur to combat them by appropriate methods.
Hamed pointed out that the total area planted with olive trees in the governorate is 9,984 hectares, comprising about 1,636,000 trees, of which 1,393,000 trees are fruitful.
As-Suwayda Governorate produced about 6,181 tons of olive fruits during the last season.
