The process of integrating Finland and Sweden into NATO is launched.
The accession protocol between the Alliance and the two countries was signed on Tuesday under the aegis of Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The national parliaments of the thirty Member States will be able to initiate the ratification votes.
Estonia announced that it would do so on Wednesday.
“Many allies have prepared for the ratification to be as quick as possible, but it will take several months
,” warned Jens Stoltenberg, without venturing to give a deadline.
Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson mentioned a one-year term.
The questioning essentially concerns Turkey, which is demanding, under the agreement signed in Spain last week at the NATO summit, the extradition of individuals suspected of terrorism.
