The source added that there was no impediment to a later meeting between Prime Minister Lapid and Russian President Putin, "although we have deep disagreements with Russia regarding the war."

Regarding the possibility of a meeting between Lapid and Ukrainian President Zalansky in Kiev, the source said: "We do not rule out this if there is a concrete reason for it, but such a meeting is not currently planned."

In recent weeks, since the Russian siege of Kyiv was lifted, several Western leaders have visited the city, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

As you may recall, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett tried to mediate at the beginning of the war between Putin and Zlansky, but his efforts did not bear fruit.

Bennett met with the Russian president, and even flew to do so during the Sabbath despite being observant, on the grounds of mental supervision.

The initiative briefly positioned Bennett as a statesman in the international arena, but was also criticized for undermining Israel's position vis - à - vis Western countries, which adopted a firm line with Russia.

It is further alleged that President Putin is using Bennett for his own purposes, and that he has no real intention of reaching an agreement.
