Not enough staff to be able to carry out all operations promptly.

The Nuremberg Clinic is currently struggling with this problem.

Corona is also to blame.

Nuremberg – It was a specter from the Corona wedding.

Staff were tied to corona intensive care units or fell ill themselves.

Hospitals had to keep a certain number of beds available.

Non-essential surgeries had to be postponed.

But the times are over.

Or not?

In Nuremberg, surgeries have to be postponed again because of Corona.

Corona is still partially paralyzing the Nuremberg Clinic

Patients with pain sometimes have to wait several days before they get an appointment for surgery.

Surgeon Atilla Dubecz reports this to BR.

The virus is to blame.

“Unfortunately, Corona is still not over.

There is a lack of staff on the wards, in the intensive care units and also in the surgical area.” Postponed surgical appointments are now part of everyday life again at the Nuremberg Clinic.

Sometimes patients are put off for weeks.

This time it's not the capacity that needs to be kept free.

It's the lack of staff.

“In fact, we have employees every day who cannot come to work because of a corona infection or other reasons.

It is the case that the employees who have Corona are absent for one to two weeks, sometimes three weeks and are therefore also limited in their performance," says the chief physician of surgical intensive care, Christian Kubitz, of the situation at his clinic BR.

For three years in a row, surgical planning has already been restricted.

15 percent less capacity than before the pandemic level was lost.

Corona at the Nuremberg Clinic: Important operations are carried out "promptly".

It's not yet the dreaded triage, but the doctors have to weigh up who will be operated on first.

“Of course, patients whose life is in danger, whose life or organs are in danger, are operated on very promptly.

Cancer patients in whom the tumor would progress should and will be operated on as quickly as possible,” emphasizes Kubitz.

Everything else will have to wait.

An appointment usually becomes available the following week.
