Boys win another tug-of-war competition and reveal their recipe for success

At the tug-of-war competition, the Garching boys' club dragged the competition through the marquee.

Their coach then revealed why the boys are so good.

– 22 meters of rope lie in the middle of the marquee, eight men face each other at each end.

Whoever pulls the red ribbon over the center line wins.

Sounds easy, but requires a lot of lard in your arms.

But not only that, good shoes are also required and of course a coach who loudly encourages his team.

This combination ultimately helped the boys' club "Huber Buam" to victory.

As the defending champion, he prevailed again this year in the tug-of-war competition at the end of the Garchinger Bürgerwoche.

The opponents could not oppose the eight men with a fighting weight of 1041 kilos.

Knowing their strengths and weaknesses: The home team in their traditional white aprons and the Atomics baseball players first met in the preliminary round and then in the small final.

The first took third place.

The fact that measuring the male image is one of the undisputed highlights of the Citizens' Week was already evident at the first edition in 2019, when the Garching fire brigade dominated the home club, in 2020 the Huber Buam conquered the title for the first time.

"We didn't train with the rope, but we lifted a lot of beer mugs - and our stomachs are full of chicken," said boys' coach Martin, explaining his team's preparations for the competition.

The atmosphere in the marquee was like that of a wrestling match, the fans grouped close together around their favorite teams and tried “Pull!, Pull!” or “Pull!

There's still something going on!“, to support at least with powerful words and voices.

"We pull rhythmically," Christian Angstsam, coach of the Hochbrück volunteer fire brigade, explained his team's tactics.

"We'll use it to knock the opponent off their feet quickly."

Garching presents itself: An integral part of the citizens' week is the parade on Sunday, in which umpteen organizations took part, including the fishing association.

And they succeed, up to the final against the lads' club.

But the "Huber Buam" follow the same competition tactics, but hang on the rope with 224 kilos more.

The first few seconds showed that there were two equal technicians and tacticians facing each other.

After a good minute, it no longer helped the firefighters to ram their mountain boots into the ground with their center of gravity low, inflate their cheeks and tense their upper arms until they burned.

They had to admit defeat and were able to celebrate second place.

"We were simply too easy there," concluded Angstam.

In the small final, the home team in their traditional white aprons dominated the baseball team from the Atomics.

The two teams met in the preliminary round, fought a sweaty 40-second battle, the baseballers with the better end.

However, the home club didn't want to let the third place be taken away, because the eternal runners-up from previous years were after all about honor.

The "Garchinger Freunde 05" and the "Pichlmayer Pflegeteam" were also at work with ambition and a lot more fun, but just as little as the Budo team had a word to say in the struggle for victory.
