Seine-Saint-Denis: an RATP bus driver beaten up by a group of individuals in Épinay-sur-Seine

The attack would have been motivated after an avoidance maneuver by a child in the Orgemont district. The driver, in his thirties, would have been surprised by the appearance of the toddler on the road, causing the anger of several witnesses.

In a video widely shared on social media on Monday July 4, a man in a gray t-shirt flanked by the green RATP logo is seen being pushed, dragged to the ground and punched and kicked by half a dozen men. attackers in tracksuits at the side entrance of a bus.

All under the dumbfounded gaze of the helpless passengers.

The victim is none other than the bus driver of line 361, which connects Argenteuil station to that of Pierrefitte-Stains (Seine-Saint-Denis).

The facts occurred Sunday evening around 7:25 p.m., at the “Epinay-Orgemont” stop, in Épinay-sur-Seine.

According to a source close to the case, the attack took place after a child avoided maneuver in the Orgemont district.

The driver, in his thirties, would have been surprised by the appearance of the toddler on the road.

Although he narrowly avoided it, he reportedly received a barrage of insults from witnesses to the incident.

The latter would have continued his journey despite everything until the next stop, where several individuals were waiting for him.

The driver then got off the bus and was immediately attacked by the small gang, beaten up and left inert on the tarmac.

Informed, the police and the Network Protection and Security Group (GPSR) quickly intervened, but the attackers had already fled.

The victim was taken care of by his superiors and taken to the Delafontaine hospital, in Saint-Denis, by the firefighters.

She had a bleeding head wound and bruises on her left shoulder.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to investigators from the Epinay-sur-Seine police station.

In a press release, the RATP expressed “

its great emotion and indignation at this act of violence committed against one of its agents.

RATP strongly condemns this unacceptable act of violence.

Several protections supposed to ensure the safety of the machinists

This violent attack is reminiscent of that of Philippe Monguillot, in Bayonne, two years ago almost to the day.

On July 5, 2020, this 59-year-old father was brutally attacked by two passengers when he wanted to check their ticket.

Inside the bus, the tone rose and after an initial fight, the driver was taken out of the bus, where his attackers beat him.

A fall to the ground after a punch had resulted in a fractured skull and hemorrhage.

Transported to the hospital, Philippe Monguillot had died after five days of treatment, causing great emotion across France.

The machinists of the RATP nevertheless benefit from several protections supposed to ensure their safety in the exercise of their function.

Thus, the latter have an anti-aggression window to ward off physical attacks;

a discreet alarm that the agent can activate at any time.

The latter is directly linked to the security PC which can trigger listening to the environment in order to collect information and size the response with the dispatch of a GPSR team or a Police team;

on-board cameras (between 6 and 12 depending on the Bus model).

The triggering of the discreet alarm automatically causes the blocking of the video recording at a time T. This device allows, on judicial requisition,

to be able to view the images when the alarm is triggered.

Without triggering the discreet alarm, the recording of images is continuous;

an internal security service (GPSR), with 1,000 agents, which intervenes quickly in close coordination with the police.

In addition, the RATP, in cooperation with Île-de-France Mobilités, has launched an experiment, called "

Evidence

", to test the real-time transmission to the RATP security PC of images from six video protection cameras on the network. surface (Bus) for three months, from March to June 2019, on three buses on line 170 - one of the most sensitive on the network.

During a second test phase, the device was deployed for one year from July 2021 on the entire line 170, i.e. 30 buses, in order to assess the long-term benefits of the device.

The objective of this is
