"Being a woman requires more than a medical procedure," the singer said in a television interview, in which she also sided with author JK Rowling, who is known for her controversial views regarding the transgender community.

American singer Macy Gray was interviewed for the talk show TVTV Uncensored hosted by British Pierce Morgan and managed to stir up a storm when asked about transgenderism.

"I'll say it and everyone will hate me," Gray told Morgan, "but just because replacing body parts doesn't make you a woman. I'm sorry."

Morgan added that celebrities are often afraid to express their opinions on this controversial issue, as they fear a counterattack will be their lot.

Gray (54) agreed with him and when asked how she would define a woman she replied: "A human with a breast. Let's start from there, and you will also have a vagina."

"What women go through is a completely unique experience and surgery or finding yourself does not change that."

Gray sought to emphasize that she supports transgender rights similar to Morgan himself who acknowledged this, but for her the line passes when it comes to sporting competitions in which they are given the opportunity to compete in women.

"If you want me to call you 'she', I will call you that because that's what you asked for," she explained but immediately reserved her words, saying: "But it does not make you a woman just because I called you 'she' and just because you had surgery," she stated emphatically.

"I know this as a fact."

She added that she supports British author JK Rowling ("Harry Potter") who crosses morning news about her remarks about the transgender community and is categorized as having transphobic views.

"I do not think you should be called a 'transophobic' just because you disagree. There is a lot of judgment and attack on people who just present things as they are," she said.

"Being a woman," she insisted, "requires more than a medical procedure. A woman goes through a very unique experience and surgery or a process of self-discovery does not change that. Being a little girl is something epic. You can not attribute it to yourself just because you want to be a woman." .
