(CNN Spanish) --

This Tuesday at the age of 90, Jorge "Cacho" Fontana, a historic Argentine announcer and host who shone on local radio and television, passed away.

The news was confirmed by his daughter Antonella to various Argentine media at the gates of the hospital where he was hospitalized.

Owner of a characteristic style and voice, Norberto Palese, his real name, had extensive and outstanding work on radio.

In the 1970s he hosted the "Fontana Show", a successful program that was broadcast for more than 15 seasons on Radio El Mundo and Radio Rivadavia, for many the germ of current radio magazines in Argentina.

On TV, Cacho Fontana's appearance on "Odol asks", an emblematic cycle of questions and answers, between 1963 and 1973, was another of his milestones in an extensive career, which kept him intensely active until the 1990s.

Owner of great lucidity, in recent years his health has deteriorated: he contracted covid-19 in 2020, and although he managed to overcome it, he also suffered pneumonia.

His death occurred the day after the death of his ex-wife Liliana Caldini, who was a renowned model and mother of his two daughters, Antonella and Ludmila, was known.
