Today (5th) at about 6 o'clock in the evening, it is understood that the High Court received a suspicious letter. After opening it, officers found a plastic tube containing white powder, and they called the police for help.
After receiving the report, the police went to the second floor of the court to investigate, and called the explosives disposal unit to investigate the powder composition. There is no need to evacuate for the time being.
On-the-spot information indicated that the recipient was the Master Clerk.
The Secretary for Justice, Mr Lam Ting-kwok SC, issued a statement saying that he is very concerned about the incident.
As a society ruled by law, Hong Kong will never tolerate any illegal acts of intimidation or violence and contempt of court.
If anyone commits such acts, the SAR government will definitely follow up seriously, bring the wrongdoers to justice, safeguard the dignity of the courts, ensure the proper execution of judicial work and social peace.
