The pact to put an end to the indigenous protests in Ecuador reached last Thursday has had the first major political impact on Tuesday with the resignation of three ministers and the secretary of Higher Education.

The resignation of the heads of Economy and Finance, Health and Transport marks the lifting of 18 days of chaotic mobilizations, motivated by inflation, the deterioration of the health system and the oil and mining agenda of the Government of Guillermo Lasso, the conservative president in what social and economic neoliberal, has accepted the resignation of three key senior officials in his management this afternoon will announce the replacements.

In addition to Simón Cueva (Economy and Finance), Ximena Garzón (Public Health) and Marcelo Cabrera (Transport and Public Works), the head of the Secretariat for Higher Education, Science and Technology and Innovation also leaves the Executive.

Alexander Ribadeneira.

The president has thanked them for "the loyal and valuable services provided."

The consensus between the indigenous organizations and the Government lifted the protests, but it does not mean a blank check by setting a period of 90 days to verify whether the points of agreement are being fulfilled or not.

The Government promised to change several laws.

For example, the repeal of decree 95 that allowed receiving private investment in state oil activities and the reform of decree 151 on mining.

At that point, he responded to the demand that a popular consultation always be held before starting mining activity in the surrounding towns and to restrict this type of resource exploitation in protected areas, ancestral territories and in spaces considered to be water sources.

In addition, Lasso agreed to deactivate the last state of emergency declared in four provinces neighboring Quito one day before the peace, precisely because of the lack of expectation that there was a few hours ago of reaching an agreement.

The economic crisis was the spigot that lit the fuse of the protests.

However, the mobilizations also had repercussions in the Assembly.

The opposition took advantage of the Executive's weakness to try to remove the president through parliament, although the motion ultimately failed.

The new ministers will now have the responsibility to continue negotiating with the indigenous organizations to avoid new protests.
